Interpersonal Communication Issue (Solution) - Breakdown at the Bar
Hey everyone! Thank you for your suggestions. I realise that I need to examine the way I handle conflict and have thus found the best tool for that, the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI). This model measures our conflict resolutions on two parameters – Assertiveness and Cooperativeness, and has five different modes.
I initially took the avoiding mode to this issue by not speaking to my manager about the difficulties I had faced during my shift. The next time I encounter a similar situation, I will need to use the collaborating mode with my superiors and understand the underlying needs they have. While sharing my thought process, I will also gain insight of their perspective and struggles. This will allow us both to work hand in hand to ensure smooth operations of the establishment.

Hi Athena
ReplyDeleteIt is best to acknowledge the helpful comments both your peers had given - listening, clarifying , apologising, being attentive to tone. Seeing how these elements ( or the lack of it ) also contribute to the TKI model will help you to understand the problematic behaviours being displayed by you and the manager better. Then the desired outcome you hope to achieve will lead to a better awareness of the solution. Keep on reflecting as it is an ongoing learning journey!
